Tools and Materials for Fence Installation Woodlyn, PA

When embarking on a fence installation project in Woodlyn, PA, it's imperative to arm oneself with the appropriate tools and materials to ensure a successful build. The local climate and landscape peculiarities must be factored into your selection process to guarantee durability and functionality.

Firstly, one of the most crucial tools for erecting a wooden fence is a reliable post hole digger. This tool allows you to create uniform depths suitable for setting posts securely. In rocky or clay-heavy soils prevalent in some areas around Woodlyn, an auger might be necessary instead of the traditional manual digger.

The next indispensable item on your list should be a sturdy level. Precision is key when installing a fence; hence, using a level ensures that each post stands perfectly vertical, avoiding potential structural issues down the line.

Furthermore, you will need various fasteners such as nails or screws designed specifically for outdoor use. These are essential in attaching pickets to rails and securing other components of your fence structure. Opt for galvanized or coated options that resist rust and corrosion caused by Pennsylvania’s sometimes harsh weather conditions.

Materials-wise, pressure-treated lumber emerges as the top choice due to its resistance against rot and pests—an important consideration given Woodlyn's diverse seasons. For aesthetic appeal combined with longevity, cedar wood also makes an excellent fencing material though it comes at a higher cost.

Concrete mix plays another pivotal role in assembling your wooden fence. It anchors fence posts firmly into the ground providing stability against strong winds which can be quite common throughout certain times of the year in this region.

In addition to these primary items, do not neglect ancillary supplies like saws for cutting wood to size, hammers or nail guns for fastening pieces together, and paint or stain for finishing touches that also offer extra protection from elements.

Lastly, personal protective equipment cannot be overlooked; gloves shield hands during labor-intensive tasks while goggles protect eyes from flying debris when cutting or hammering materials.

To summarize, constructing a sturdy and aesthetically pleasing wooden fence in Woodlyn requires careful selection of both tools—such as post hole diggers—and materials including pressure-treated lumber. By choosing high-quality items resistant to local environmental factors paired with precise workmanship facilitated by levels and proper fasteners; homeowners can enjoy privacy and security provided by their newly installed barriers for many years.

Angi provided me with several contractors, I received estimates but chose Philz Landscaping (even after coming in higher) because he satisfied with his estimate and start date our fervent desire to complete the project before winter set in. Alex, Javier set the example of professionalism in setting up the area to remove fencing and gate, installed vinyl fence with double gate (assisted by Carlos), removed all debris, left my yard spotless and we are extremely satisfied with the new fence and gate. Questions we had were answered (Helena, Phil) promptly and Alex, Javier went above and beyond ensuring my wife’s concerns were taken care of; I want again to Thank the team at Philz Landscaping and recommend highly to perform your project.

Had Phil and his workers come by my house to work on the backyard in May this year. Eliminate weeds, regrade soil and replant grass seed. 158 feet worth of backyard which he estimated $1600 to do. There was a hiccup with his office and scheduling and he wasn't even aware of the set date in mid-May. He rescheduled for the week after and took off $100 for inconvenience. His crew shows up and does the job and weeks after, grass grew....but not fully in corners of the yard. I called him back, voicemail immediately. Got in touch with his office and they said they would pass the message. His response times are atrocious and I told him about the patches in the grass. He says "no problem I'll send guys to evaluate and re-seed". They show up and do the job again. By mid-July, weeds are growing in very strong and grass is dying at exceedingly high rate despite me watering. I called him back and he says "that's odd, I'll come by this afternoon or tomorrow" in September when I finally get a hold of him. He never shows up or responds to texts or further calls. The photos below are post-lawn work with visible patches and weeds. I had to spend additional monies on top soil, grass seed and water to correct the loss of 50% of the lawn!! If you want an overpriced job not done right, Phil is your guy!!

Philz Landscaping built 2 patios on my property. One is flagstone and the other is pavers with a retaining wall. Both are absolutely beautiful. Working with Phil and his team has been a great experience. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for reliability, quality, and reasonable pricing.
